AIM was incorporated in 1968, formed by the consortium of Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle College and the University of the Philippines, financed by the Ford foundation and guided by Harvard University. The consortium initially Ford Foundation with the intention of upgrading their respective business education offerings where as the foundation realized the need for elevating business education for the entire Asian region. It is sometimes called the Harvard of the East as it uses Harvard teaching methodologies.
AIM became the first graduate school of management to receive ISO 14001 certification. The case study method covering 800 cases dealing with real life business situations which forces students to analyze complex, ambiguous problems and make decisions under time and resource constraints.
AIM ranked 42 out of 111 schools in the Beyond Grey Pinstripes 2007 rankings released by the Aspen Institute Center for Business Education. Beyond Grey Pinstripes is a biennial "research survey and alternative ranking of business schools that spotlights innovative full-time MBA programs leading the way in the integration of issues concerning social and environmental stewardship into the curriculum."
The Beyond Grey Pinstripes ranking is "the result of over 18 months of rigorous research… looking at how well MBA programs incorporate social and environmental issues into the training of future business leaders." 100 top MBA programs were short-listed after analysis of 40,000 pages of data. The Aspen Institute surveyed 111 institutions—71 in the U.S. and 40 international schools—representing a total of 18 countries. The data were taken from the 2005-06 and 2006-07 academic years.
